BOSTON -- David Ortiz went from gesturing up at an official scorer one at-bat earlier to pumping his fist toward his teammates after his game-tying homer. Three pitches later, he was hugging Mike Napoli at home plate after his teammates winning home run. Napoli and Ortiz hit consecutive homers with one out in the 10th inning and the Boston Red Sox rallied past Minnesota 2-1 Wednesday, sending the Twins to their fifth straight loss. "We havent been able to produce. Our pitching has been outstanding lately, but we havent been able to hit," Ortiz said. "To come back and win the game, that was big." Boston was held to one hit -- a fifth-inning double by Daniel Nava -- before the homers. The Twins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 10th on Chris Parmelees two-out home run off Red Sox closer Koji Uehara (2-1). But after Dustin Pedroia flied out to begin the Boston 10th, the Red Sox connected against Casey Fien (3-4) to complete a three-game sweep. Twins closer Glen Perkins was unavailable with a sore back. Ortiz hit his drive down the right-field line and pumped his right fist toward the dugout as he headed toward first base. Napoli hit his shot into the centre-field bleachers. Three innings earlier, Ortiz felt like he had a hit taken away when he reached on what was ruled an error by official scorer Bob Ellis after the ball deflected off first baseman Joe Mauers glove in the seventh inning. When he walked off the field following Napolis double-play grounder, Ortiz was glaring and waving his arm up at the press box. "You hope they have your back at home and it never happens," Ortiz said. "Ive been here more than a decade and the scoring, its home, man. What do you want Mauer to do? He dove for the ball. He knocked it down." "I always look like Im the bad guy, but they always end up changing it. Its not that we need to check on Papi. Check on the scorer to see what hes doing wrong," he said. Earlier this year, Major League Baseball changed a scorers ruling and later gave Ortiz a single in a game in which Yu Darvish had a no-hit bid for Texas. Parmelee also had two singles as Minnesota finished a 3-6 road trip. "Were glad were going home," Parmelee said. "Its kind of tough end to the long road trip, but were headed home and were excited to get back home." Uehara had a scoreless streak snapped at 21 2/3 innings when Parmelee homered into the Red Sox bullpen over the leap of right fielder Brock Holt. "Unfortunately, one extra split to Parmelee gives them the upper hand, but a dramatic finish on our part," Boston manager John Farrell said. "David comes up big once again." Like the previous two games of the series, both one-run wins by Boston, neither team had much offence going. The Twins entered the day with seven combined hits and one run in the first two games and Boston scored just three total runs. The Red Sox were on the verge of being shut out until the improbable ending. "Its the worst feeling in the world," Fien said. "When youve got a pitching staff that threw like that and then they ask me to come up big and do my part. You come out with the L. Its not a good feeling." Bostons John Lackey and Minnesotas Kyle Gibson kept up the trend with strong pitching performances. Lackey gave up three singles over nine innings, striking out nine and walking one. Hes allowed three or fewer runs in six straight starts, and 12th of 15 this season. Gibson pitched seven shutout innings for the third consecutive start, allowing only Navas double, while striking out eight without walking anyone. Gibson retired the first 14 batters before Nava lined a double near the base of the right-field wall that bounced in Bostons bullpen for a ground-rule double. Pedroia had his streak of reaching in every career start against the Twins snapped at 30 after he went 0 for 4. NOTES: Red Sox starters held an opponent to three runs or fewer for the 12th consecutive home game. ... A day after designating him for assignment, the Red Sox released struggling OF Grady Sizemore from the roster. ... Red Sox pitcher Brandon Workman lost an appeal of his six-game suspension for throwing near the head of Tampa Bays Evan Longoria on May 30, and the right-hander began serving it Wednesday. ... RHP Yohan Pino makes his major league debut, facing Chicagos Jose Quintana (3-7, 3.98 ERA) Thursday as the Twins open a four- game series at home against the White Sox. ... Jake Peavy (1-4, 4.53 ERA) goes for Boston Thursday against Oaklands Scott Kazmir (8-2, 2.05) as the Red Sox begin a 10-game road trip. Justin Simmons Jersey . Dumont, a fifth round draft pick of the Canadiens in 2009, has four assists and 20 penalty minutes in 12 games with the Bulldogs this season. The 23-year-old split last season between Hamilton and Montreal, recording 16 goals and 15 assists in 55 regular season games with the Bulldogs. Cody Latimer Jersey . Interestingly, the culprits were not rookies, but well paid, experienced pros. The first gaffe came in the 24th minute of arguably the biggest early season MLS game in history between Seattle and Toronto. Sounder newcomer Marco Pappa, (with over 100 MLS games, and 39 Guatemalan Caps to his name) attempted a back pass to one of his central defenders. http://www.broncosproauthentic.com/Blac ... fe-Jersey/. Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Frank Thomas appeared to be on track to gain election from the Baseball Writers Association of America on Wednesday, and Craig Biggio could join them. Jamaal Charles Jersey . -- Jerome Verrier scored once and set up two more as the Drummondville Voltigeurs downed the visiting Chicoutimi Sagueneens 5-1 on Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play. Karl Mecklenburg Jersey . Price also posted the longest shutout sequence since 1960 at 164:19 minutes. He stopped a combined 55 shots in Canadas final two games and 70 of 71 shots in Canadas three elimination games, allowing only a breakaway goal to Lauris Darzins of Latvia. For his efforts, Price was named best goalkeeper by the tournament directorate. Prices outstanding play is marred only by the extremely strong defensive play of Canadas top six defencemen; Shea Weber, Duncan Keith, Drew Doughty, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Alex Pietrangelo and Jay Bouwmeester.FIVE NBA THOUGHTS: Greetings from San Francisco! This is one of my favorite cities. Today, well look at five frontcourt players today, here from the Bay Area. 1. AMIR JOHNSON (Raptors): I cant figure out what the issue or problem is, but based upon what Im seeing, hes not right. Hes one of my all-time favourite people in the 16 years Ive spent as a broadcaster and I cant put my finger on why hes in a funk. Hes not playing with the same energy or enthusiasm that were used to seeing. I dont see the smile and happy disposition, either. Hopefully, for his sake and his teams sake, this is just a blip on the radar. Johnson is truly one of the good guys in the profession and leaves everything he has on the court for you. The Raptors need him at his best. If not, theyre in big trouble. 2. ANTHONY DAVIS (Pelicans): It was a tough break for him with the hand injury in New York last night. Hes been playing wonderful ball and has been making nice strides in his overall game. I love his shot-blocking and rebounding ability and his offensive game with added strength and stamina will continue to emerge. The concern you have with him is going to be whether or not he can stay healthy enough to log a major number of games each season, so that his improvements become habit and reach that next level. Only time will tell, but hes shown me in one season plus this one that hes got a chance to be a really good one...IF he stays healthy. 3. ROBERT SACRE (Lakers): The Canadian has been getting a little bit of run this season and its nice to see his numbers from last nights game vs. Portland (12 poiints with seven boards and four assists.dddddddddddd) Its never easy being on a team where you know youre minutes are going to be limited. From what Ive seen this year, when his name is called, he comes in the game and gives you great energy and passion. That goes a long way in helping your chances to stick around in the NBA. Good for him. 4. ANDRE DRUMMOND (Pistons): Wow. What a game vs. the Sixers last night (31 points and 19 rebounds.) Consider what would happen if he could ever make free throws (he was seven for 18 last night.) Hes a remarkable talent who is an example of the importance in finding a few skills that you do really, really well and hanging your hat on them. If you do, good things will happen for you. He is a terror on the glass, finishes in the lane and alters a bunch of shots. Drummond was just a terrific draft pick for Joe Dumars. Hes far from polished, but hes an impact guy. 5. TIMOFEY MOZGOV (Nuggets): Ive had a chance to watch this young man develop over the years and hes a fascinating guy to watch. He made a few elite, big time plays yesterday for his team against Toronto yesterday. Ive said it before and Ill say it again: if this guy was a throw in during the Carmelo Anthony trade, what was Knicks owner James Dolan thinking? He forced team president Donnie Walsh to pay a kings ransom for Melo and former Nuggets GM and current Raptors GM Masai Ujuri fleeced them. This guy has a load of talent and plays very hard, as well. Hes got the motor you want in a big man and a nice guy to bring off the bench - what a luxury. Mozgov was a good get.
